Photo Welcome! My name is Lucian Busoniu and I am a postdoctoral researcher with the SequeL team of INRIA Lille. I obtained my PhD degree (cum laude) in 2009 from the Delft University of Techology, the Netherlands, and my postgraduate and MSc degrees in Control Engineering, respectively in 2004 and 2003, from the Technical University of Cluj Napoca, Romania. My research interests include learning-based and advanced methods for the control of complex systems, in particular reinforcement learning and dynamic programming with function approximation, as well as multi-agent learning and other topics. For those interested in more details, a Curriculum Vitae is available.

The other pages of this website contain information about the research projects I am involved in, a selection of my publications, teaching and course information, as well as a repository containing downloadable material related to my research and teaching.

News

Researcher at CNRS

In January 2012, I will start working as a CNRS researcher at the Research Center for Automatic Control (CRAN), in Nancy, France.

Teaching and moving to INRIA

In March 2011, I am teaching an intensive course on Learning Control, at the Automation Department of UTCluj, Romania. After that, in April, I will start a postdoc at the SequeL team of INRIA Lille.

Change in publication list

Paper and chapter entries now include links to online publication pages, where available (expand the abstracts to see these links).

New version of the MARL toolbox

I have updated the Multi-agent reinforcement learning toolbox. Version 1.3 adds the Distributed Q-learning algorithm and a new 'robotic rescue' gridworld environment used in the example of our survey chapter Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning: An Overview (where the problem was described more generically as 'object transportation'). Also included is a demonstration script illustrating the experiments reported in the chapter.

Approximate RL toolbox released

I have made available a Matlab toolbox for approximate reinforcement learning and dynamic programming, see its entry in the Repository.

Book release

I am very pleased to announce the release of the book Reinforcement Learning and Dynamic Programming Using Function Approximators, authored by myself and Robert Babuksa, Bart De Schutter, and Damien Ernst, and published by Taylor & Francis CRC Press in their Automation and Control Engineering series. This book provides an in-depth introduction to RL and DP with function approximators, including detailed research studies of representative algorithms. See the book's website at http://www.dcsc.tudelft.nl/rlbook/ for more information about the book and how to obtain it, as well as free access to a sample chapter and other downloadable material.
